**Point A (4,9) and Point B (4,-3) form line segment AB.**

The x terms are the same, however the y terms differ.

Evaluate the absolute value for each y term.

l 9 l = 9

l -3 l = 3

9 + 3 = 12, therefore, line segment AB is 12 units in length.
